    Exclamation Installation issues

    Hi,

I am new here on this forum so please let me apologise in advance if this is posted in the wrong section

I have just uploaded SugarCRM to my site which is on Lycos(paid for site) and can not get past the initial checks for the install.

What I mean is it says thay the session save path is incorrect and that safe mode is on.

I have tried altering these settings in the .htaccess file but lycos immediately detect a config change and stop the scripts from running. I have spoken to them and there is no way around this.

This leads me to my question. Is there any way I can still install this software please ?

    Thanks

    Darren

Probably not what you want to hear, but I recommend you consider a different host - someone who is going to give you more direct control over the server environment. You need to be able to have access to changing your php.ini settings, chmod control over directories, write your own .htaccess files, etc.

It isn't just about Sugar either. Plenty of other platforms from content management to accounting require more direct access.

I particularly like www.hostmysite.com - they have been around a long time, have redundant data centers, and frankly have one of the best customer service teams I've been able to find.

We've found good success with their VPS program which lets you set up a large number of domains, mysql databases, e-mail accounts etc. Gives you good control over the environment and also gives you the choice of cPanel or Plesk for server management.

I'm sure that the folks in this forum all have their own opinions on whose good and why. Just thought I would share who we've used and why.

    Good luck!

    -John
