    Red face Installation Problem

I am sure this is down to my lack of technical knowledge. I want totry out the open source version of sugarcrm on my own PC. I have downloaded the Spike Sugar Windows installer and run the .exe. I end up with SugarCRM installed in program files; I do not seem to have inetpud installed on the C:\ drive; and cannot find the installation wizard refered to in the installation guide. Clicking on Start SugarCRm not surprisingly resulting in http://localhost/sugarcrm 'file not found'.

I am sure I'm making a very basic mistake - but would really appreciate some guidance.

first off uninstall all of the sugar spike install dont work to great atm make sure you have uninstalled IIS or atleast stopped the service if installed.

download the SugarCRM 4.0 Latest Stable Full (5.93 MB ZIP) not the sugarspike installer
then Download the Latest Xampp from http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html

(1)install the Xampp .when your finished installing xampp
    (1a) stop apache
    (2) browse to c:\program files\xampp\
    (3) then run the php-switch.bat enter 4 press enter (php 5.05 and sugar dont work together)
    (4) browse to c:\program files\xampp\apache\bin\ and open the file PHP.ini in notepad
find the line that reads (near the middle of file)
;extension=php_curl.dll remove the semi colon ; also on line that reads
;extension=php_imap.dll remove the semi colon ; save and close the file
    (5) extract the SugarCrm zip open extracted folder and rename the folder inside to "sugarcrm" copy this folder and all its contents to c:\program files\xampp\htdocs\
    (6)start apache
(6a) open your browser and type http://localhost/sugarcrm

hope this helps (its took me a week to get it to this stage but only thing i cant get working is the windows schedulers)

Thanks for this - all worked fine. I would not have managed this without your guidance. Now for the configuration challenge!

    Hi,

I'm trying to get sugarcrm 4.5.1 installed on a working xampp that I'm running on a winXP pro machine.
Everything seems to be working fine exept for the sgar installation.
I can acces mysql as root with a password I created from both the mysl-box and from within phpMyAdmin. I can create db's and tables.

However when I launch the sugar-installation than I fail in step three with the following error :

SugarCRM database user name and/or password is invalid.

I have followed all steps mentioned in this thread but no succes so far.
Somewhere on the internet I read that this could be because php and mysql are looking to a different ??socquet-file?? or somthing like it. I forgot what is was and can't find the text anymore.

Does anybody have an idea how I can solve my problem or can anybody tell me something about this file that both php and mysql have to look at.

    Thx

How stupid can a man be???

I've used the microsoft -version that is meant for MS SQL.
    Deleted it
    downloaded the correct version
    and installed it...no problemo!

Level 1 cleared (no bonuspoints deserved)
    access to level 2 granted!
