Default Manage a hierarchy of potential users

    Hi guys.

Got a potential situation where I'm looking to have a tree structure for people that Imight have to manage. These guys should all have access to the system, but it should be limited.

Here's kind of what I'm considering:

    tom
    -user1
    -user2
    -user3
    -user4

    sue
    -user5
    -user6
    -user7

    bob
    -user8
    -user9

    joe
    -user10
    -user11
    -user12
    -user13
    -user14

i'd like to allow the top level users (tom, sue, bob, joe) to be able to track/manage their own guys (the users) without seeing the guys who are under the other top users.

I'd also like to allow the "users" to be able to access a chunk of a separate database of potential contacts. The "users" should only be able to access their own "contacts", with the top level guy for the "user" being able to access all the contacts for the "users" that he's managing.

Any thoughts on how I can set this up in SugarCRM???

    Thanks

    Hi Tom,

it seems that you will need to use the Professional version ;-)
This version allows you to create teams and associated security which should completely fit your needs.
Tom, Sue, Bob... will only see records assigned to a member of their team assuming that users will report to their team leader.

    Hi Tom,

Use the "reports to" function in the user settings, assign all Tom's users to Tom etc. This should work in CE

    hi malcolm...

i'm using the open source version, and i've create 2 test users. however, i can't see anywhere on the user functions (as admin) where i can define the "relationship" between the test users i created.

is this functionality (teams/reporting to) in the open source version??

    Hi Tom,

Look for the "reports to" function. This controls the view on the records with CE as you need it.

    hi malcomh,

any idea where the btn is??

i might be on the wrong page. using the "open source app, i'm logged in as the "admin", and i've selected my test user.

    i can't seem to see a "reports to" btn/function....

    Hi all,

I also need to set up a hierarchy similar to Tom. I used the Reports To option which is located on the User's actual profile, as suggested, but the manager of the Users are still not able to view the records of his suboordinates. In the roles section for Manager, gave him owner rights to those records.

Any suggestion on where I am going wrong?

Secondly can someone explain the difference between the Security Module and Team Module and when should each one be used?

    Thanks in advance

Have a look at Security Suite in the Forge:

This will give you everything you need without going to the Pro or Ent versions

    Hi Sugra,

Did you figure out how to get the "Reports to" functionality to work in CE?

I am coming across the same problem. I have assigned all users to a role where they can only edit/delete if they are the "Owner" of a record. I have also set up all the users to report to one managing user (with the same role).

However, the managing owner does not have any edit/delete privileges on the records of his subordinates.

Any thoughts as to what I might be doing wrong?

    Thanks much.
