mass update problem

Hello to All of You,
I am quite new to SugarCRM.
I was playing around with this to check few things.
To see some valuable features I created some employees and created some users for them.
It was working quite well. People could log in and make create some contacts etc. but then I wanted to play with mass update function to see how it works.
I checked some settings on mass update of users and (i guess) my settings deleted those updated users from employees list.

Is there any way to restore the previous settings in some quicker way then creating employees and users nce again?
I tried to look for a possibility to assign employee profile to a user, but there is no such an option (at least form the GUI.

What can You suggest?
