Question May I modify Sugar Code?

Hi, I’m looking to integrate CRM system for my company, and I’m confused about Sugar license.

Specifically, it states that “No Derivative Works — You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work”. Does it mean I can’t modify the code to meet my needs??? In order to customize Sugar, do I have to do it through Module Builder??? Can I create my own modules and append them to Sugar???

Module Builder description states: “Developers can leverage existing Sugar Objects such as Contacts, Accounts, Documents, Cases and Opportunities to build a new module or create their own custom objects from scratch to form a new module”

    Thanks in advance

Where are you reading that? Sugar is licensed under AGPL and older versions under GPL.

You are more than free to make modifications to the code. The restrictions you need to be aware of relate to distribution of said changes.

Sugar Community Edition is licensed under the AGPLv3 public license (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/agpl.html). The AGPLv3 license does not have any of those restrictions you are referring to here. Can you point me to where you are reading this?

You can of course create your own modules which is the very purpose of Module Builder.

Circling back in this thread, it looks like you confused the license for the Sugar documentation with the license for the software. The docs are distributed under the Creative Commons license you point to above.
