Default Migrating from PRO to CE

    Hi folks,

I've been tasked with migrating our 5.2 PRO install to 5.2 CE. My question is... is it enought to cp the db & config.php/cache/custom data over to the CE install and run db repair?

I understanably don't see a lot of info on this migration path and was wondering if anyone else has tried and encountered gotchas.

    Cheers,

    Eric

I am not entirely sure that would work. I remember playing around with something along those lines some time back, out of curiosity, and I got some weird behavior in CE, but I don't remember everything I did after I copied the database.

In general, you should bear in mind that this isn't a natural path of transition, thus you are unlikely to find much on the subject and you might have to do a bit of playing with it on your own in order to get the desired results.

Basically this should be fairly easy. copy the DB except a couple of tables (e.g. conifg, systems, user_preferences) which should need to be left like they are in a blank ce install.

DB repair should not be necessary since this anyway does not delete fields and CE does for sure not add fields. Since you copied most patrs of the DB also with custom modules there should be no fields in the vardefs that are not on the DB.

let us know your experiences in trying this.

    regards, christian.

I once restored a sugarcrmPRO mysql database backup under a sugarcrmCE install. It seemed to function as expected with some expected exceptions:
Tabs for PRO-only modules appear broken.
    Quotes
    Products
    Forecasting
    Reporting
    Contracts
Little tiny Tabs appear on the Tab bar. These are empty.
db repair did not fix this. something in the CE code is enumerating tabs based on the mysql tables. obviously, the corresponding PRO php/MVC files are not present in CE for special PRO database tables.
Admin>Configure Tabs does not fix this.

    Repairs do not fix it.
Module Control Panels do not fix this.

That seems to ring a bell in regards to the oddness I remember seeing when I was playing with a similar idea.

There is probably a way to clean it up if one spends enough time playing with it, but I didn't spend anytime looking it beyond that as my curiosity had been satisfied at that point.
