    Default MySQL Database Maintenance

Aside from taking regular backups and applying updates, is there a write-up that contains suggested regular database maintenance procedures for SugarCRM CE running on a LAMP server? This is not covered well in the "Installation and Administration Guide". Currently everything is running just fine for me, however, I'm concerned that, over time, the database will become less robust if occasional/ regular maintenance is not performed. As much as I have searched there does not appear to be a good document covering simple maintenance procedures, intervals, etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

What kind of database maintenance are you looking for specifically? I think that this could depend heavily on how you use Sugar and the data it stores. Knowing this can help you determine what data may be able to be cleaned/removed.

Over time if you delete a high number of records it would be helpful to clean those records out of the system if you don't need them for data retention or other reasons.

Josh, thanks so much for your reply. The example you have given, removing deleted records, is one area of concern. A far bigger cause for concern is that we send thousands of marketing emails with large attachments (a *.pdf of our company brochure). Over time these emails will take up an unreasonable amount of space on the server hard drive. While it would be nice to keep the history that the email was sent we don't really need to be able to read the email itself and more importantly, we don't need to save the attached pdf file (which is taking up most of the space). Any further suggestions that you can offer would be very much appreciated!

You could periodically delete emails and as long as the Admin>email settings "Delete related notes & attachments with deleted Emails: " was TRUE. This would keep your disk space requirements down
