Default The nature of commercial open source development

    Dear SugarCRM Developer,

Greetings from the Information Science School - Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

In collaboration with my advisor, Dr. Marcello Peixoto Bax, I am doing a MSc in Information Science regarding aspects of the commercial open source software. We think that SugarCRM will be a great case study in this area, and we have elected it´s Community as an example of the peer-production software development, in the sense of Yochai Benkler's manifesto, in "The wealth of networks". Findings from this study will benefit SugarCRM community giving a better understanding of itself, but also might benefit the international academic community in understanding the nature of commercial open source software development.

Since this case study aims to argue the hypothesis that the commercial version does not kill the spirit of open source movement, we thought that you would be interested in collaborating, anonymously if you prefer, by answering some brief questions that you can find on the link:

Please take a quick look at the attached survey, which will take only 5-10 minutes.

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful input. We would appreciate a response by Monday, April 07th, so that we can move forward with the process of refining and finalizing this research.

    Kind regards,

    Maria Helena

Moving this to General Discussion. A pointer will still remain in the Developers forum.
