New Fields and query

I just created a field in a form in the studio.
I saved one record.
But when a try to retrieve the record the field is blank.

What integration has the field with the database?
Do I have to setup something else?

Figure out the following:

1. A record into fields_meta_data table related to the custom field
2. A field into <table_name>_cstm related to the custom field
3. A field definition into cache/modules/<ModuleName>/<ModuleName>vardefs.php

It is possible the field had not been properly created.
