    Default New Sugar User- Advice

    Hey guys,

I am co-oping this semester for a company who wants me to create a place where they can place sets of training manuals and other customer information so that everyone in the dept. can access it.

I am above average at computers, but below a computer programmer per se. I have been pointed to sugarCRM and seems that it can do everything I need it to do and much more. I have now downloaded and loaded ubuntu so that I can set up sugarcrm in that. Basically the biggest part I will use SugarCRM is for a file repository for the manuals. Is there any advice that someone can give or a certain tutorial that would help me out.

I have looked at the university and it helped out a little. Anything would be helpful.

    Hi,

Yeah, the flexible architecture of SugarCRM makes it more suitable for the organizations to implement in their sales and automation process.

As you have been through university and it helped you. Well, you can also take a quick look here: http://openapp.org/open-source-crm

    HTH.

    Regards,

It seems like you work for a small business. If you only want a place to share files, how about:
    - Setting up a file server (easy if you have a spare, or an under utilized Windows server + doesn't cost anything besides the Windows license)
    or
    - Setting up a sharepoint server (harder, have to buy sharepoint license and maybe ms sql license)

SugarCRM also has the document module. However, it'll be hard for you to do backup / access control .... . If you really want to do some open source stuff, then you can check out Knowledge Tree.

You'd probably be better served by an app like KnowledgeTree: http://www.knowledgetree.com/

Install it on a webserver and everyone can access it through a browser from anywhere.

We actually have Sharepoint, but for some reason they want it seperate of Sharepoint and I am trying to figure out what they do not like about Sharepoint. We have other software to handle the things that SugarCRM does besides the file repository so it just feels like overkill. I will check out knowledge Tree, thanks for the help.
