    Default New User start-up docs

    Good day all -
I recently switched jobs and am slowly inheriting Sugar as my new companies CRM application. I have plenty of database experience, but i can already see a couple of things I'll need to properly admin the system. If someone can at least point me in the right direction on a few of these things, I'd appreciate the help.

First, has someone written out the schema somewhere? It seems relatively easy, but something I could print and put on my wall would be helpful

Second, I know I'm going to have to design modules as I go. I saw a module builder for older versions of Sugar, but we're on 4.5.0 f build 1202. Is there something like this module builder done for this edition? The reason I ask...

My first task is relatively simple and I'd like to learn on this project - I need to add a module that accesses two tables I've added to my database (MySQL). One table is a join table that associates a parent ID with a child ID (A parent can also be a child). I basically need to build that relationship. I'd also need an easy way to display this information on the modules page.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I should point out that comprehensive HTML- and PDF-based user and admin documentation is found here.

Question Re: New User start-up docs

Come on guys... I understand the links are there for a reason, but many times the reason a thread is posted is due to the user not finding the answer, or not in terms easily understood when new to Sugar.. In addition, a forum is a place where, not one but ,many people benefit from the response from SugarCRM staff and developers.. I'm also interested in the same answers and, call it pilot error, have not found clear answers within your links Andy.

Do you think you could address this post directly and provide answers to these questions?

Thanks again Andy, you've been great in addressing our concerns - please don't take this wrong, we are just trying to learn a new system as well...

    HT

Hi HomeTeam, yes, learning Sugar requires quite a ramp. And we're to first to recognize that our Dev doco is incomplete. But the topics we've run during our Sugar Dev-User Group sessions have addressed many of the issues Sugar beginners experience.

I'm also responsible for ramping Dev doco so you'll be seeing changes in this critical area.

The "How to Build the Forums Module" topic here is a very good summary of the module building steps kvalley32 outlines. The Sugar Dev-User Group (SDUG) sessions as a whole are useful. New ones are listed here. We don't have schema doco or an E-R diagram (yet).

    kvalley32,

You can take a quick look at this for Schema, which you can use at your wall

Also, this would provide you with a gist of creating new modules: http://sugarcrm.openapp.org/?p=14

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
