Default Newbie question regarding layout changes

    Board,

I am a long time ACT crm user. I have a friend installing Sugar CRM now, but I am having some trouble getting used to the layout of Sugar.

I was wondering if you can change the layout of the screens and create a layout that operates more like what I am used to. I love the flexibility of Sugar, but would like to see how others customized the screen layouts.

Any screen shots would be greatly appreciated and what was used to change the layout.

    THanks
    Russell

The biggest challenge you'll encounter in trying to duplicate or mimic what you are used to isn't so much whether it is possible, but more so the level of complexity involved in accomplishing it.

Sugar includes a customization Studio that allows you to add fields, change labels and layouts by means of simple point-and-click and drag-and-drop operations. The experience would be somewhat similar to that which you are accustomed to.

However, taking the next step can prove to be a bit tricky. For example, if you want to change label or data colors on a layout, you can't do it through Studio. You have to do it manually, via code modifications. The same is true if you simply outright do not like the look and feel of the layout and prefer something else.

Ultimately, many things are possible, but may require an investment in time/consulting services.

I think to customize the layout colors and other details on sugar is easier developing/customizing a theme and install it.

Depends on your needs. For example, a color change to the data on a field could easily be done via detailviewdefs.php. I've actually got an example of that very thing on my blog: http://cheleguanaco.blogspot.com/201...yled-data.html

Creating a theme would be a bit overkill for that.
