    Default Opensource edition pathetically slow.

I downloaded and setup the open source edition. Installation went fine and all features work fine.
The problem is - the user experience is really slow with each action taking time. This despite installing it on high end server on the local LAN and accessing it via Firefox 3.5 - there fastest browser.
Is the paid version any better?

No ... there will be something wrong with your infrastructure or the way you have set up sugarm. SugarCRM returns sub-second responses for most queries on a well configured server.

What sort of response times are you getting?
What's your infrastructure? Are you going through a proxy server? If so, what happens when you take this out of the equation?
    Are you running over https?
How many users do you have?
    What's your stack?
    What does sugar.log say?

All of this helps diagnose the issue.

But please refer to the first paragraph above. There will be no difference between the Pro and CE editions. The issue is internal.

Also - if you are on a Mac, Firefox is no longer the faster browser - Safari kills it for this sort of app, with so much javascript.

Almost always I see the cause of a slowness due to the database. Many times simply re-indexing does the trick. If you want to get the absolute most out also consider some sort of server-side caching like APC or Memcache.

One more heavyweight (in every respect...): Another reason might be that you have the "talking home" functions enabled. Go to admin and and uncheck the boxes under "Sugar updates". Those cause delays up to 30 seconds if there is no connection to the internet.

I agree, I am using this on a linux server and this is the only website or app used on this machine. I've gone thru many of the suggested steps to help it run faster...

But after all of that I still find it barely usable. I truely dread having to work with it becuase it is so slow, and I want to find a reliable way to make it run faster.

Each time I click the button, WAIT< WAIT< WAIT. About 6 seconds to load the home link, and i don't even want to discuss how long to load the email page.

I don't consider switching to the pro version because the open source runs so poorly.

    IT IS NOT THE SOFTWARE

It is something in your setup!! I asked in my first response, the following questions:

What's your infrastructure? Are you going through a proxy server? If so, what happens when you take this out of the equation?
    Are you running over https?
How many users do you have?
    What's your stack?
    What does sugar.log say?

By answering them we may be able to help. Merely complaining without providing any further information does not help.

Please provide some more information. There are many people in here with the expertise to help you.
