    Default Opt-out not working

Not sure if this is related to my problems with Scheduler not running (ref http://www.sugarcrm.com/forums/showp...9&postcount=27)

Anyway, I'm sending out emails in a campaign (well I would, but have to send them manually for now). Anyway, when someone clicks on the opt-out link, the campaign registers an opt-out, and Sugar displays the correct page (You have been unsubscribed), HOWEVER the email address is not marked as opt-out.

This means the next time a campaign is sent out, I get irate emails asking why they weren't removed from the list.

What I've been doing to manually process this is to take all the names listed as opted out in the Campaign Status view, and adding them to a suppression list for that particular campaign.

Perhaps this would be a smarter solution anyway for SugarCRM - instead of marking a contact as not being able to receive any email from any future mailout, perhaps they should just be excluded from a particular campaign. This depends on your particular way of using SugarCRM I guess.

What version of SugarCRM are you using ... have you done any modifications ... opt-out has always worked consistently

Hi, Started with a current install of 5.2 a couple of months ago and have since applied patches i and k.

Yes, I agree, I've never had problems with opt-out before, which is why I'm hoping if I can solve this, it will fix my other problems with the scheduler. Just looking through a SugarCRM debug log now ... fun all the way.

(sidenote: Actually I preferred it when you could set the logging level from the command line, so you could just capture very precise bits of data - the act of setting and unsetting it through the admin interface itself generates pages of output to wade through .)

Does it happen for all e-mail addresses or only some? If only some, are they addresses shared by more than one record for some reason?

OK, I think I've found out what's happening, and apologies to all for the knee-jerk reaction - my frustrations with the misbehaving Scheduled tasks led me to think this might be a solution.

Anyway it seems what has happened is that the way in which SugarCRM handles Opt-outs has now changed. Previously, as far as I can figure out, when someone clicked the Opt-Out link, the Opt-Out flag was activated against the contact's email address.

Now what happens, is that the contact's opt-out flag is not touched, but the contact is removed from _that specific Target List_.

So I was basically looking in the wrong place. Its only when I simplified it down to a Default Target list of two names I was actually able to spot what was happening

Now this brings up an interesting question in the way we handle Target Lists for a campaign ... with this current method, the next time we generate a Target List from eg a search on Contacts, this contact will be included on the Target List again. Care is needed to avoid this.

Maybe the approach of taking all the opt-outs and making a Supression List with them is a good technique to avoid this?

    Hello hkphooey,

did you create a campaign of type=newsletter? With a newsletter email campaign, when someone opts out, they are only opted out from that newsletter campaign. With a campaign of type=email, when somebody opts out, then their opt out checkbox is checked off, and they are opted out of receiving future email campaigns.

Yup, you're absolutely right. I'd been sending out Email type campaigns for the previous 4 years, but this was my first Newsletter Type campaign. So that's the difference!

Thanks for your explanation. The penny has finally dropped.

Thanks for the valuable information. I am also struggling to figure out, how to remove a name from opt-out list? I wanted to check if this link works, hence clicked on the option. Hence, now I don't receive any test mails that I send across. Now I want to be added back to Target Lists. Please help how do I remove my name from the Opt-Out list of emails.

    Thanks.
