Patch release names/conventions

I've been looking round but can't find anything that really talks about the "code names" or version names (Venice, Newport, etc).

A bit of happy searching I found this thread and managed to work out that 5.1.0b is codenamed Venice.

This other post mentions that patch A was Malibu, so I assume that Newport is the patch C.

Can a sticky or something on the main page be setup to help link the codenames to patch levels?

Maybe also something that explains the meaning of 5.1.0.patch? I'm guessing that it means that it will make it in as a patch, but nothing solid as to which patch it will be in.
