There aren't any built-in options to handle this. Some time back I made a module that can be used for this, although you would need to update the manifest to use with newer versions of Sugar. Here is the download: SugarForge: Phone Formatter: Project Info
Newer versions of Sugar also offer alternative ways to apply similar functionality in a broader scope, namely by customizing the field template itself.

Angel; I'd seen this and had already downloaded. I was thinking that there might be a "macro" $[module]_phone_[field, work, fax, mobile, other] that a localized phone format could be specified in a template or similar, then for all displays, html or merge the correct format would be returned, but still only save just the numbers in the database as
[any string of numbers] <space> [extension numbers]
stored as 8883214567 123
setting local phone format, would render
(888)321-4567 Ext. 123
or if a different format was entered, the same numbers would produce, (pseudo European)
08 8832-14567 Ext. 123
Or any format defined in the phone format option
Nope, no such thing exists, at least built-in. What you are describing is more along the lines of what I reference when I mention the possibility of modifying the field template.
