SugarCRM will soon integrate the I18N system which allow multilingual support.
we've realize an french traduction of 1.0 version for our company, you can also do it.
but as I18N is one of the sugar team's priority, i advise you just to wait few weeks.

1.1 has shipped. We now have the capacity to handle language packs.

If you want to create a translation, please download 1.1.

copy all of the en_us.lang.php files to an appropriate other name such as sp.lang.php.

All of the files are under language subfolders. There is one language subfolder under include, and one under each module. The include one has general application strings. The module ones are for module specific strings. Only the right hand side is translated.

There is a setting in config.php that stores the language array:
// Defined languages available. The key must be the language file prefix. E.g. 'en_us' is the prefix for every 'en_us.lang.php' file.
$languages = Array('en_us'=>'US English',);

Add extra languages to this array to make them avaialble to the application. The default language can be set in config.php. It is used for new users and if a more specific language file cannot be found.

We are collecting language packs to make them widely available.
If you zip up all of the language files that you have created and send them to us, we can put them up on SourceForge for download.
