Is it possible to attach proposals to an opportunity/account?

The quote module is insufficient for our needs and I would therefore like to attach quotes/modules to their associated opportunities. I thought this would be straightforward but i can't see how to do that or find any reference to it in the user mannuals or in these forums. Is it possible to do this?

You can create a quote, print to PDF and attach the quote (or a proposal if you have created one in another application) to the quote as an attachment. Under the Quote you are working on, click on "Create Note or Attachment" and attach the quote or proposal as a history item.

You can associate a quote with an opportunity when you create the quote or edit it. You can also create an opportunity from the quote's detail page. This information is documented in the user guide.

You can attach a file from your local machine via a note. The process is as follows:
1. On the quote’s detail page, click Create Note or Attachment in the History sub-panel.
2. Click Full Form, and on the Notes page, click the Browse button that is adjacent to the Attachment field, and navigate to the file location on your local machine.
3. Select the file to attach it to the quote. You will see the file listed in the History sub-panel on the quote's detail page.

I was hoping to avoid usinghte quote module altogether as it doeasn't add any value to our business. However it appears you can attach documents in the history of the opportunity which is just fine. Thanks for your responses.
