Is it possible to copy a module?

How can I copy an existing module, rename it, and make modifications to a few of the fields. Is this possible?

Yes, you technically can do that, but I reccomend against it..

If you're going to go to all that trouble then you want to CREATE A NEW MODULE of which is packaged up and installable via the Module Loader.

It's more beneficial for many reasons of which I don't have the time to lay out..
Just look at it from the simple perspective that it'd be ALOT easier to apply/insert your custom module into any sugar deployment, any version, etc..
