Default Possible way to integrate Sugar to a VOIP softphone

Ok so I'm pretty new to Sugar and am NOT a developer but I've been tinkering around with it enough to see there might be an option here.

I've read several threads about phone integration and I see it does integrate to asterisk, but there are a lot of people that don't use asterisk.

I personally use a Talkswitch phone system in my office. We have physical phones at our desk but we also have the ability to use softphones. I have a free softphone called X-Lite from a Counterpath. This phone works perfect with my Talkswitch phone system.

X-Lite has the ability to be dialed from a hyperlink. This is the format of the hyperlink:
    <a href="sip:<address or number>">dial <address or number></a>

So if you wanted to dial 8675309 you would need a hyperlink like this
    <a href="sip:98675309@192.168.1.4">dial 98675309@192.168.1.4</a>

The 192.168.1.4 is the IP address of your SIP server or in my case my Talkswitch system. If you use VOIP service you would put the domain of your sip server.

Now, like I mentioned before, I am NOT a developer, but I know a lot of you guys are. So my thought is to create a module or something that would create a "dial" hyperlink on the list views, and in the detail view of targets, leads, accounts, contacts, opportunities ect ect, that would generate the hyperlink needed to dail the softphone.

Just so we're clear I'm mainly giving this idea out to see if anyone wants to take on the task themsevles, I'm not looking to hire anyone to do this.

But I know many softphones have the same function to dial via a hyperlink, so if somone came up with a module that you could edit the hyperlink you could have a phone interface for most softphones on the market.

Anyone wanna take a stab at this??

Have you tried checking the "enable Skypeout" setting in Admin? That setting doesn't just work for Skype; it enables any telephone number displayed on any page to have a hyperlink. I would switch that setting ON and see how far it takes you to an answer.

Well, I just checked that and it would be a good solution if you could edit the hyperlink in the admin section. And also have this option enable the phone number becoming a hyperlink even if its not formated with "+1" in the front which I wouldn't need.

This would be a GREAT phone integration if you had a way to change the format of that hyperlink it generates for skype.

Right now its setup to be "callto://(phonenumber)" and of course the phone number has to have the + and country code. But if you could have a check box that enabled all phone numbers to be hyperlinks regardless of formatting, and then also have the ability to "wrap" the phone number with whatever html code you wanted to, then Sugar would have a pretty slick softphone integration.

On a side note, I was thinking of other "cool things" this could do.

So lets say you have a sales force using Sugar and softphones to make calls all day.

You could have a module that would allow you to click the phone number and Sugar would dial the softphone via a hyperlink, and when you click that, it would automatically generate a call activity for that account, or lead. There might be even one more step it could take, and that would be for the softphone to record the call and save the file as an attachment to that account or lead. Now that would be some cool tracking.

    Stewart,

there are also tapi based tools out there that enable you to highlight text hit a function key and it dials. That may be a simple route to what you want. I can't think of the one I've encountered off the top of my head but if you're interested I can probably get you a link. It's likely paid for software but low cost.

    Thanks

    Vince
