Problem Adding PowerPoint Documents to the DB

Hi.

I am in the process of handjamming a number of documents of varying types into SugarCRM 3.5.1b, and I have encountered an issue. On occasion the documents will either be dropped on the floor or will be created without the corresponding attachment. When I looked for a common pattern it has always been PowerPoint files that fail. Is this a known problem? Or a configuration issue? Is there something I can do to get around this? I considered saving in PDF format and was told this is not a good option so changing the document format is off the table of options.

Additional information:

I noticed that the PowerPoint presentations that are rejected are ones that are NOT created via template presentations, while those are are accepted originate from templates. This is reproducible in two different environments under two different installation scenarios.
