Default Project Task Dependencies (How do I do them?)

Project tasks have the following fields:
    Task ID
    Parent Task ID
    Task Number
    Order Number
    Predecessors

However, despite having all of those fields, I have yet to figure out any way that I can say "Project Task B depends on/cannot be completed until/requires Task A" and see any meaningful change in the system.

Now I know that Task Number and Order Number are deprecated/vestigial fields, and it looks like Predecessors may be as well. So it would seem like "Parent Task ID" would be where you would define a dependency (ie. Task B would have Task A's Task ID as its Parent Task ID). But when I do that, nothing changes in the system; I can still set B as "100% complete" even when A isn't at all complete.

So is there a way to define dependencies between projects? And if not, does anyone know what the Parent Task ID field is for?

    Hi,

    I understand your problem.

In the SugarCRM system currently; I would assume that the relationship between a particular Task and its Parent Task is purely definitive.

Meaning, the current Sugar system does not have dependence relationship between Tasks and Parent tasks.

However, it is a do-able task to create your required relationship.

Get in touch to discuss, if you may.
