    Default Questions about Mail

I know that there are some threads regarding mail and 4.2, but this is a specific question about sending mail using Sugar 4.2.0d running under PHP 4.4.2.

All our mail functionality is handled on a separate IMAP server and the only thing we need Sugar to do is to send SMTP email, we don't want to be able to receive mail within the Sugar client, we only want to be able to send from it.

Now, it appears that the only way that any employee can send mail from within Sugar is for the account details for their incmoing IMAP accounts to be entered. It appears not to be able to send email without the IMAP details being added... this doesn't seem to be logical... or have I missed something?

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I don't usually like bumping things, but I thought I would try again.

Why not create a new account on your email server - one that no-one uses... Use that account as your Sugar account that can send emails out, but doesn't recieve any.

This will prevent people having their email trapped inside Sugar CRM when they want it in their own email clients.

One email issue that really bothers me is the advanced options in Sugar email section. It has tick boxes that when ticked should keep your mail on the server even though it has been downloaded by Sugar. This doesn't happen!!! If you put your email details into Sugar - It will download your email from your mail server and delete it off of the server - leaving your email trapped inside Sugar CRM!!!

Anyways, enough ranting... A new email acount should work out dude.

    Good Luck

It's a good idea... I must admit I didn't do any lateral thinking on that one! I'll try it out after the weekend. I think that there are too many rough areas in Sugar at the moment, email, which I thought would be an essential area for a CRM seems to be poor... it has trouble with attachments as well.

    Cheers

is there a way to just disable the inbound email functionality all together ? what happens if there's no way for your provider to enable IMAP with PHP ? you're doomed from using sugar ? we cant launch an email campaign because of this nonsense....
