Quick Create Contact or Lead - Why is email not auto populated?

I saw a related thread on this that is a couple of years old, so there must be a good reason?

When looking at an email, and I hit "Quick Create" -> Contact, why is the email address pulled out along with the name to populate the email field on the add Contact form?

This cannot be difficult, but I am dumbfounded as to why this is not working. Would someone experienced please comment on this and let me know if I am missing something or if there is a fix that I am not aware of?
