Recommend any free modules/dashlets?

Hi,

I'm new to sugar and I'm beginning to to see how existing features map to my organization's (several of them) needs.

Can any one recommend, or point to me to, a list of additional capabilities that can be added to Sugar for free? Modules, extensions, dashlets, whatever you call it.

Of course payed-for alternatives can also be considered in the future, but for starters I'd like to know what can be used for free.

Is there any "Best Free Modules" list somewhere, or perhaps some personal recommendation of your own?

Have a look at SugarForge.org where our community posts their extensions. I suggest looking at the "Projects of the Month" list and also looking at the Most Active Projects list.

Enhanced Studio seems a bit too advanced for me, but I'll keep an eye on it...

I will try Enhanced Search, looks useful.

The listings on SugarForge are great, but I miss an option to "browse by license". You can browse by version, by category, edition... no way to just list every free module....

Any more ideas?

They're not all free, but most are, it's a useful list.

Meanwhile, browsing the page of one of those projects, I found I could click the license type ("Open Source") and get to a browse by license screen..

So, that does it for SugarForge... I have what I asked for, I will investigate that list.

I don't suppose I can expect to find other things that aren't listed there, right?

I have Sugar 5.0e CE installed. Some of the modules that I would like to try are for Sugar 4.5.

How safe is it to try them? It's just a test environment, but anyway I wouldn't like to break it. What would you say are the odds of a simple Sugar 4.5 module working well in Sugar 5.0?

I'd say 0.01%.
Modules have a manifest.php file where the compatible versions are listed.
Usually modules for 4.5 don't have a 5.0.x line so Sugar doesn't load them.
You can add such line manually, but you force this loading at your own risk...
