Restricted user privileges

Hi everyone.

We have a customer that is considering Sugar. We will be creating separate tables/tabs to support other relational data (so far so good here) however we will be updating quite a bit of data nightly from other sources, and this particular data should not be altered in Sugar. This includes some standard tables (Eg customer details).

Can anyone advise if this functionality is accessible in Sugar? Eg. Can we disable editing/deleting of a customer? Or restrict the available fields for editing withing a view/table?

Hi, i´m new in sugar, We use 5.0.0f CE edition. all i know is that you can restrict the use of modules, and for security in editing or deleting something we´re using the http://www.sugarforge.org/projects/securitysuite/ it´s not for this version, but we altered the manifest.php and it´s working just fine, we´re testing it for 3 weeks now and no problems were found so far.

Not sure whether you mean the entire customer record (not only parts of it). But in the former case you should be using roles where users can only edit their own records (or not a all). During import of new or changed records you can also change the owner to smthg like "import user" or similar.
In pro (or ent, not sure now, need to check) I believe you can lock even fields.

I run ent at my company and I can confirm you can lock information down to field level using roles.
