We are currently running Sugar CRM to manage the activities of our Sales team.

All our clients (Contacts) are allocated Sales Representatives (Employees) within established Sales Regions based upon the client’s individual zip codes.

Each Sales rep has his own sales region established by a group of zip codes within a given state and each client is allocated a Sales rep based upon these location zip codes.

When the new client signs up he/she uses a web form that is based upon Sugar tables and therefore the basic information is imputed directly into the Sugar contact database by the actual client. We have to date them allocated manually the client to the correct Sales rep.

We are wanting to take this further and have the client automatically assigned to a Sales Representative when they sign up on the web form. When the client enters a zip code we want them matched with the Rep looking after that zip code.

We are trying conceptually to work out how this can be achieved with Sugar.

Any input or assistance as to how we could achieve this would be greatly appreciated!

This is called workflow, it is available in the Pro and Enterprise product but not in the OS product.

In order to do this in the OS product you would have to code it (or have it coded) into the source. SugarCRM has logic hooks built into it just for this kind of thing so it's not a hard bit of code to write and it could be made to be upgrade safe. You could ask for help in the classified forum if you do not have any programmers in your organization.

You also could look through SugarForge and see if anyone has a project open for this kind of thing, it does sound familiar.
