Hi,
We are taking the leap to sugarcrm and want to import our existing accounts, then contacts from another accounting system into Sugar, using the "Import" function. Before we do, we want to make sure we're doing this correctly.
I haven't found a good database table/field schema for Sugar. If anybody knows of one, please post here for all of us to see. My questions below arise only from examining the fields using PHPMYADMIN and beginning the mapping process using the "Import" function, as well as examining the sample data for the demo database.
ACCOUNT
1) What is the difference, if any, between what Sugar calls the "Assigned User Name" and the "Assigned To"?
It appears they both link to only a single field, that is account.assigned_user_id
2) Is the "ownership" field implemented at all? You can import into it, but trying to glean the meaning of this field is hard with the sample company data, as this field is all null throughout
3) The import function refers to two distinct fields "name" and "name*" when the table only has one, called "name" Is there a purpose/reason for this difference?
4) When importing, should we ignore the "ID" field? Will Sugar assign one automatically?
CUSTOMER
1) Finally, according to the User's Guide, we should import the Accounts first, then after all accounts are defined, import the contacts for those accounts. What is the field that creates this link in the import? Is it simply the "name" field when importing accounts must match the "Account Name" field in the contacts import? If not, what fields must be identical? Will it automatically create the low level ID field and synchronize those?
Thank you!
-Ron
