Talking Security settings - limiting user access

How do you control users access to information in SugarCRM? Is it possible to specify that a certain user has access only to his/hers opportunities?
From a management point of view it´s neccesary to have the ability to control access and for example specify that the sales manager has access to all opportunities while an individual sales rep only has access to his his own data. Thís would also reflect the dashboard content or?

You need to check out the Team feature in Sugar Professional. Each user belongs to a team consisting of just themselves, plus any number of other teams which are groups of users. Each piece of data entered into the system is assigned to a group. So you can keep it just for yourself, for your regional sales team, or share it with a global team.

Sugar Open Source has no equivalent feature.

What I'd like to do is to restrict access to the tabs themselves. In the Professional demo, I can see where to create a team and assign team members, but I see no indication of where and how to set permissions/visibility of items. I must be missing something.

If I'm understanding correctly the 'Team' feature or some variation thereof may work for my situation. The majority of our clients are franchisors having independently-owned franchise locations around the country. A couple of my clients would like to extend the functionality of SugarCRM to their franchisees. However, because each franchise location is an independently owned business we need to limit access within Sugar to users within the franchise only - and perhaps even within the franchise itself. I know I could do this by installing an instance of Sugar for each franchise location but ideally I would be able to have to maintain only one installation for the entire franchise organization and somehow set security within that single installation so that the individual franchise locations have access only to their leads, contact, accounts, calendars etc. etc. and cannot see the same of other franchisees. Is this possible now with the 'Teams' feature or any other modification that a user has made? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if clarification is needed.

    Hi Dick,

I am not sure whether you are looking at a similar functionality. But I made a post in the developers section regarding "User Hierarchy". It can a solution that you are looking at, but it can control the display of "Tabs". 2.5 update of the code is in pipeline and I am planning to submit most possibly by this weekend.

    Hi everybody,

Something to add to this issue, as well as to the 'Roles' issue.
As an example, I've experienced that any user of the dashboard can select and see the informations of any other user(s), regardless of his/her team membership (see the 'edit' form of the dashboard°.
Especially, I declared a user with only private membership (NO Global team membership). This user can see dashboard informations from ANY other user.
Am I missng something ? And if not, what do you intend to do regarding this issue ?

    Regards,
    Jean
