Default Setup of Multiple Users - Web based

    HI there

I have a couple of users that i have set up but they can't log into my sugar system.

The users will all login via the web and not a server at the office. All will be done via the web.

Do they need to install the specific sugar with all it's database settings?
I tried sending the login link to them but that did not work.

    Please help?

    Thank you!

Your server needs to be accessible over the internet ... users need do nothing but login with username and password

Question Re: Setup of Multiple Users - Web based

    Hello there,
I had the same question but don't really understand your answer regarding the server being connected online.

I have the opensource sugarcrm free platform that i downloaded to my mac, and want for two additional people to be able to access the same platform from their own (PC) computers.

We don't have a common server (we use dropbox.com) so I'm not quite sure how we can all access the same sugarcrm platform?

What is the procedure they have to follow after I have set up their users (done that already) so they can access my sugarcrm and we can all use the same one?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ana

You need to deploy this to some shared resource ... usually the least expensive option is get hosting space with a large scale isp, 1&1 or suchlike. Deploy the instance to the shared space then everyone can use it. The bottom line is you need a shared server.

Question Re: Setup of Multiple Users - Web based

Many thanks for the quick reply.

Sorry for my basic question, but HOW do I "deploy the Instance to the shared space"?
I assume "the instance" is the sugarcrm platform right?

I already have hosting for our website with 1and1, is this sufficient or I need anything else?

    Many thanks!

Question Re: Setup of Multiple Users - Web based

    Hello there again,
i have spoken to 1and1, they mention I can use shared hosting (as I currenlty have for my webpage) or own hosting, where they actually assign me a specific server and hardware.
Is it the own hosting that I need?

Or with the shared hosting option (the typical hosting for webpages) is enough?

If so, HOW do I deploy the instance to the 1and1 hosting platform?
Where in sugarcrm do I go to "upload" this and make it accessible to others?

    Many thanks in advance,
    Ana

You have a long road to travel ... but we all need to start somewhere.

For sugar you can use either shared or dedicated hosting but for two or 3 users a shared server might suffice.

There are enough posts in the forums to suggest that 1&1 and sugar play nicely together but you should check the requirements and compatibility matrix before signing up for hosting ... possibly by asking 1&1.

Then you will need an FTP (File Transport Protocol) client such as filezilla. You will use this to copy the downloaded SugarCRM instance on your hardrive to the 1&1 webspace.

Once you get that far ... come back for more help

Question Re: Setup of Multiple Users - Web based

    Hi again,
    i'm nearly there I think.
I now have filezilla installed and my server connected, a friend has created a folder in my server where to include all the sugarcrm folders.

I access in Filezilla the sugarcrm folder and have on the right side of filezilla the server connected.

My question now is, WHAT folders do I copy from my local harddrive to the server? All of the folders inside the sugarcrm folder?

    Thanks!

Question Re: Setup of Multiple Users - Web based

    Hi again,
please let me know which folders i need to copy from sugarcrm to the shared server on 1and1, is it all of them?
Once I've done that, is there anything else I need to do?
(I already have a http link set up for everyone to be able to access the sugarcrm once on server)

    Many thanks for the help!
    Ana
