Default Share custom fields across modules?

I could not find this in my searches...maybe my terminology is off but,

If I have made some simple custom dropdown fields in the Accounts section...how can I utilize those same fields in say the Leads section. I would like for the sales group to fill in the information as they get their leads, then when they convert have the information 'dumped' to the Accounts section. I can make new custom fields for the Leads section but I know these will not transfer over to the other custom fields in the Accounts section. Can a knucklhead like me do this without building new modules or tampering with the database?

Thanks to all for your advise!

I need this capability too, and when I first installed and came across this issue last month, I remember a post discussing it, but don't know where it is exactly.

I don't believe it was a simple fix, I think it involved modifications to the core code.

If the Sugar team is listening, can we think about the possibility of custom fields being utilized by any or all modules or are they only able to be used by one module exclusively?

If only one module exclusively, this sort of defeats the purpose of gathering information from a new LEAD and carrying it through the pipeline cycle in converting that lead to a paying customer.

    Just my 2 cents!

There are two methods in the forums for solving this issue I have found:

    http://www.sugarcrm.com/forums/showt...ustom+dropdown

    http://www.sugarcrm.com/forums/showt...fields+modules

The first requires no coding but only applies to dropdown list (I think). I have used it successfully.

A quick step by step for this method:
    1. add a custom field to the first module, make sure it is a dropdown list
    2. create another custom dropdown list in the second module
    3. in the data type section select 'dropdown'
    4. at the bottom you will now find a dropdown list of all the available dropdown lists including yours from the other module

I have not used the second method but will probably look into it in the future.

    Hope this helps.

The second approach described by Ajay in that other forum thread is totally doable, even by someone without much programming experience. There isn't even much risk of messing up your system, since you only need to substitute one function in one class. Nevertheless, backing up you system files and database first would be a very good idea.

We could also do this for you. You can contact me directly at suporte@lampadacrm.com.br
