Sharing fields between modules

Hi,

Is it possible to share fields between modules. For example the Lead Source field appears on the Lead but is also carried through to the Opportunity when you convert it. We would like to set up some custom fields and make sure they are also carried through to other modules.

my problem though is that i want native/standard fields to show up from leads into opportunities eg email field but i cant see it except creating it as a custom field in both...defeats the purpose...

would appreciate guidance on this front
