Status Field/ Customizing Screen Design

Is there any way to get the "Status" field in the Leads module to carry over to a "Status" field in the Contacts module... similar to the way the contents of the "Description" field carry over. When I try to add the "Status" field to the Contact screen (from the Studio module) it is not listed as an available field.

Not without code customisations ... Lead Status relates directly to the status of the lead ... when you convert the lead ... its status changes automatically to "converted" ....
