Default Sugar CRM compared to Netsuite

Our company implemented a Netsuite solution earlier this year.

We are simply using it as a CRM system, for tracking leads, contacting leads/customers and forecasting sales. We are not using it for product management/manufacturing/accounts.

    Two questions:

    1) For the above, how does Sugar compare with Netsuite

    2) How easy is the migration from Netsuite to Sugar?

For Sales Force Automation tasks sugarcrm community edition is excellent and will be more than sufficient for most organisations

As far as migration is concerned ... can you get a database dump of your netsuite database?

Yes, we can get a big XML or CSV dum from Netsuite I believe...not sure how intact the sales processes etc will be, and things like notes/documents...

If you get a CSV ... does it have the indexes or is it name/address/phone number?

If it's the latter, then you have quite a job on your hands to recreate accounts/contacts/notes

If they give you the indexes, then you should be able to use a tool like Talend or Jitterbit to get the data across ... you'll need to spend some time understanding the SugarCRM schema

With indexes, using a program such as Talend would be interesting in your case.

How big a process are we talking?

The two systems, side by side, presumably have very very similar functionality?

Yes, they have similar processes ... but different database schemas

The challenge is migrating the data from Netwsuite to SugarCRM whilst maintaining the database relationships

It's not a huge challenge ... but not to be underestimated either

Netsuite tends to be more mature and have more functionality in some areas.

However when it comes to customization and integration possibilities SugarCRM is stronger.

As for data migration it sounds like most of your question was already answered above.

You will need to look at your account structure to make sure it maps correctly but it can be done.

    Presumably something best outsourced?

Who would we go to for such a thing?

I think it is very helpful for business. NetSuite provides an easy way to achieve marketing communications. It can be used to track inbound communications, customer registrations, email communications, marketing events, web site traffic, and most other traditional marketing functions. It can be migrated to sugar because it is broken into CRM and ERP systems.
