And, before the admins go crazy and start editing this ...... guys, this is just a general post about a comparison facility on Ohloh.
It is NOT about competitors products .............. REALLY :-)
So, if you go to Ohloh and chuck in the name of a couple of competitors to Sugar - there seems to be a worrying (for SugarCRM anyway) trend.
The code base metrics, number of commits made to the project source code each month and number of contributors who made changes to the project source code each month are all increasing for competing projects and decreasing for SugarCRM.
Open Source is all about community momentum. Without community, there is no project.
Personally, I don't think it's the quality of the solution here. I think it's all the bad publicity that SugarCRM gets for it's non-OSI license. To my mind it's appropriate that they do get stick.
And yes, I know, I'm banging the same old drum. But I make my living from SugarCRM so I care intensely about the project. I contribute to the project. My customers run their businesses on SugarCRM. It's important to me to see it being successful.
What would give SugarCRM the best publicity and most momentum to catch up on competetitors ..... well, you probably know what I'd say anyway.
What do you think?
