    Default Sugar general use questions

    I have been using Open Source Sugar 4.5 for the last 3 years. I made a few module mods, but for the most part , using the standard default install.

    We have a partner company that I would like to have use the same system that we currently use for our support tickets but want to restrict the accounts that are displayed by user.

    Can I do this?

    Sugar is not designed to be used by multiple organizations. Thus, while it is possible to restrict which users can see certain records and somewhat circumvent the limit through workarounds, you are likely to run into a problem at some point. One example that comes to mind is the list of users to whom you can assign data. The list would always display your entire user list, not just those that correspond with a specific office.

    If your only concern is that specific users cannot see certain records, then you should be fine.

    The paid for versions have more functionality, for example, a Quoting module, mobile client, etc., but nothing that would change the premise of what we are discussing.

    the above case is a Memebr of Automotive Marketing Solutions
    and that account is a member of DiamondLot

    is there a way to grant access to user jcrow to all accounts
    but user john only sees accounts that have a member of relationship to DiamondLot

    if not - what would you suggest ????

    You could do that, but you would have to be mindful of the ownership being set on each account in order to make that work. i.e. Say you have two accounts that are members of 'DiamondLot,' the fact you made them a member of DiamondLot doesn't apply the ownership rules, so future account records would also need to be set. Everything revolves around the 'assigned user' value and whether or not it is set to the currently logged in user.

    Honestly, I don't know enough about what it is you are trying to do to make an educated recommendation. There are numerous CRM solutions out there today. In the end, it might not even be a CRM system that you need if the primary function is to handle service tickets.

    Either way, performing a needs analysis via forums is not really what I would call an optimal way of accomplishing the task.
