Default Sugar Professional for just one user

I've downloaded the Community Edition of Sugar and have started looking at it locally. All seems good so far, but I'm definitely starting to thing that I need the extra features of Sugar Professional . But I'm confused by the costs

Looking at https://www.sugarcrm.com/sugarshop/home.php?cat=1 it seems that the minimum order for Professional is 5 units. This is no good to me as I only want one user licence!

So unless there's a way I can buy a licence for a single user, there's no point me even considering going further.

Are Sugar so restrictive with the Professional licence?

Yes - there is a significant cost to providing commercial support to a customer, and at the low end it does not always scale well. Sugar is clearly allowed to define the point at which working with a client is profitable for them, and not offer the product to clients smaller than that. And for them that point seems to be 5 users.

I realise that Sugar can set whatever prices and conditions that work for them as a business. My only question was whether I was reading it right.

As that is the case, then I will have to think carefully about using Sugar as I need features in the Pro version but am not going to pay for users I don't need. As my business grows and I will need more users, but Sugar will most likely be out of the equation as I don't intend to move from the solution I put in place now at a later stage.

I quite agree - paying for 5 users per annum when you only need 1 is no fun. And when you find something with a cost more appropriate to a single user - I agree you'll likely get used to it and not want to migrate from it unless you grow to need features it does not provide.

What are the features you need now ?
If it's the management of products, quotes ... why do not begin with Sugar CE and manage products, quotes ... with something like Excel. If you are alone that seems to be possible.
When you will grow and a centralized solution will be needed, you will be able to migrate.

However if you find a software that offers the features that you need for 1 person and more after, obviously you should use it.

You need to engage a sugar partner for some advice on this. 5 users is just to many extents a sensible number commercially in terms of supporting something. As a Sugar partner I'd probably get the same amount of questions from a 1 user org as a 5 user org and only one of those is likely a commercially workable project. Selling you one subscription may end up costing me more than I made on the subscription. That's not to say it can't be done though.....Happy to discuss with you and you can also check the partner directory for other UK partners.

If you were asking for 500 licenses you'd have the most active post on the forum and a queue of partners waiting to show you love. You may well be able to do without Pro edition.
