Default Sugar Server Configuration questions....looking for some recommendations...

    Hey all,

We recently purchased a new machine, and will be deploying Sugar Pro company wide, begining with our sales team in the near future.

The machine is a dell server with the following specs:
    - 2.8ghz p4 dual core,
    - 2gb DDR ram
    - (2) 80gb HDs.

I have a few questions I am hoping I can get some input on:

    1) We are considering running Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition. What recommendations would you make? Really we are flexible with everything in terms of OS, DB (SQL Server, MYSQL), webserver (IIS, APACHE), and whichever version of PHP you recommend. I just want the best combo possible, and we will be utilizing the scheduled functions, and in-bound mail processing as well, so whichever setup/combo will provide me with the greatest ease of setup and administration.

    2) What would you recommend in terms of harddrive configuration? Would you recommend installing the OS and the webserver on one drive, and the DB on the other? Raid config?

    3) Is it possible to use the Stack installer for the OS version, and upgrade to the Pro version with the latest patch? Just curious, as it may make it a bit easier.

Any other tips for deployment as well will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance all

    Jesse

    Hi,

I think this will help - from the FAQ:

    http://www.sugarcrm.com/crm/products/faq.html

The SugarCRM application suite runs easily in single-user mode on either a Macintosh or a PC with as little as 256 MB of memory. On more current server technology, such as a dual Xeon Hyper-Threaded 3.0 GHz processor with 3GB of memory, the SugarCRM application suite will be able to service hundreds of concurrent users on a single machine.

SugarCRM and the required applications can be installed and managed on one server, or the applications can be installed onto many servers to offer more scalability and operational throughput.

In our testing to date, we have found the application runs fastest on a dedicated Linux server.

Use any web browser to view Sugar Suite user interface.

    Recommended application requirements
OS: Linux, Windows 2000/XP,Unix, BSD, or Mac OS X (and more)
Web Server: Apache, IIS, and other web servers that support PHP
Database: MySQL version 4.0.x or 4.1.x (best 4.0.23)
    Language: PHP versions 4.2.X or 4.3.X (best 4.3.10 ) or 5.X

Ideal system set up based on active seats:
Seats Min. Processor (equivalent) Min. Memory Server Set-up
1 Pentium 4 1.4 GHz 256 MB on personal computer
    2 -10 Pentium 4 1.4 GHz 512 MB PC or web server
    11 - 50 Pentium 4 HT 3.0 GHz 1 GB web server, database server(s)
    51 - 100 Dual Xeon HT 2.8 GHz 2 GB web server, database server(s)
    100 - 250 Dual Xeon HT 3.0 GHz 3 GB web server, database server(s)

As for configs - I can only comment on LAMP...

We use RAID 5 for the database and RAID 1 for the logs. recommend the fastest disks possible. Also, if you can put a second processor in there, it helps. In retrospect, RAID 10 would also be a good option.

We are currently running MyISAM tables but will probably update to InnoDB as more users come online (better handling of concurrent use)

As described in the FAQ, dedicated LAMP installs (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) are the fastest - though they are working on a Windows/IIS optimised installation for a future release.
