Sugar Suite 4.5 feature: UI improvements

Hi all, more information regarding 4.5.

This topic covers UI improvements you can expect for 4.5. A separate update I'll provide later will cover specific changes made to the Home screen.

• Global search
  
  • Default is same behavior as today
  • User can optionally search for specific objects
  • Selection can be saved as a user preference
• Saved searches
  
  
  • New mechanism to save searches
  • Saved as a user preference and given a name
  • A given module may have multiple named searches
• Subpanel changes
  
  
  • Users can re-arrange subpanels under a DetailView, and show/hide subpanels
  • Settings persist across DetailView invocations
• Quick edits
  
  
  • Directly access EditView from a ListView item with one click
• Inline edits
  
  
  • Edits possible within Activities and Cases DetailViews (no need to visit EditView)
• 'Save' and 'Cancel' buttons on top and bottom of EditView
• 'Close and Create New' button for all activities
  
  
  • Closes current activity and pre-populates a new activity, ready to save.
  • Useful for future appointments as an action items from existing appointment.

COOL! half of those are on requests from our users and we were going to try to mod ourselves.

One quick one about the Global Search. Currently, you cannot search by full name - eg. Bob Smith - only by first or last. We have altered the code so that the two fields are concatenated for a 'like' search but it mght be worth considering for general release.

Hey stevec, these items came directly from community inout via the forums. Manoj has been diligent in tracking them. You'll see more stuff in 4.5 that reflects community input soon enough.

On the first/last name thing, can you submit a code contribution via SugarForge here? If we get it soon enough we can weave this in 4.5.

What about improving email interface, search, filtering, sub-folders, etc... In my mind, email is the core communication of a modern CRM...
(look the Open Web Mail poen source project, they offer a very stable product... It is in Perl, but ideas are there)

Hi,

Please take a look at the 4.2 version of the application. We have done some major improvements. That being said , we have big plans to revamp the email feature post 4.5 . Please keep the imputs coming.
