    Default SugarCrm Performance

    Hello,

We are considering to implement a CRM in one of our client, and one of the options is SugarCrm, but we are a little bit worried about Performance as the Company has more than 150,000 contacts, and I Think it would be impossible for a PHP/mySql Application to manage such amount of contacts with a nice performance, what do you think?

    thanks,

    Miguel Villanueva

I am working on a wiki for maximum scalability configuration. Your concernes about MySQL handling 150,000 contacts there are databases with several million records in MySQL. MySQL is not a toy database server as it provides database replication, transaction support. MySQL will require tunning just like any database server would need for large databases. Databases Size is not a limit and can be several hundred gigabytes if you need it. You will need the nessary server hardware to support that of course.

If you need a commercial database to feel comfortable you can use Microsoft SQL and Oracle. Oracle is only supported in the Enterprise version of SugarCRM.
    Cheers,

There are people that have gotten million of accounts into Sugar. Getting good hardware with enough memory and the right configuraiton goes a long way. Our applicaiton is always increasing in complexity and getting better at caching/indexing. This combination keeps our performance relatively consistent while the application is doing more. It also means, that over time, Sugar keeps supporting larger and larger data sets.

I have seen decent performance on systems with some tables in the millions of rows. I have an thread that talks about performance tweaks and ongoing performance work in my blog. I also published the information in our Wiki.

There is a bunch of good stuff in here...

Really, any database such as you're talking about is going to need a reliable, fast, and dedicated server.
We're talking a server with two dual-core Xeons, 2Gb of RAM, and an SATA or UltraSCSI RAID setup with an OS which supports dual processor rigs. I would recommend Unix or Linux; it's stable and can be obtained in a semicommercial fashion (something like Red Hat or OS X Server... easy to install and configure) .
This sort of hardware setup would give you room to grow and years of rock solid service.
