Default SugarCRM Platform for developing web based applications

I am designing an application to assist with access certification. That is, every 3 months we generate a list of users and their access/role within an application for the application owner to review and confirm that users are still authorized.

Does it make sense to use SugarCRM as a platform for this application? We would import lists of users for each application and their role and build the logic to notify the application owners to approve or reject access. It's a bit more complex but that's the concept.

would SugarCRM be a good platform to use for this type of application? Are there other platforms?

I have been in organizations where audit checks like what you are talking about have been tried

Unless you make it on-button-click easy for the application owners/managers to check and correct the list, within 2-3 iterations of your list being distributed, it will quickly be ignored o default to being "all approved" without even looking at it.

If you use SugarCRM (or any other app) to do this, for your (and your users') sakes, do not just sedn out a list, send them an html link or list that has checkboxes beside everyone and they only need to check the box to de-authorize a user who is no longer supposed to be approved for a role.

Look at the op-out capability built into SugarCRM campaigns and you'll see what I mean. If someone clicks on an opt-out link, the email setting in the relevant contact is automatically set.

SugarCRM is the perfect platform for such a usecase.
With its SOAP/REST interface you can design own customer portals where each customer can login and access data stored in the system.

In the Enterprise Edition such a portal is part of the delivery.

SugarCRM allows the maintenace of all these contacts/accounts (not SugarCRM users!) and to send them Emails by the integrated Campaign module.

@ramblin: I have wireframes of what I want to accomplish. I agree, simplicity is key for the application owners. Once a list of users and their access is added to the system the application owner would receive a notification with a list of users. The owner needs to click approve or revoke for each user. Or the can select checkboxes and do mass approve/revoke. I've thought about doing this with an HTML formatted email, however, we need to know who clicked the approve so will require the owner to login to the application.

@kuske: thank you. Just wanted confirmation that Sugar makes sense for this type of enterprise application. I don't understand why you think the enterprise version is needed when I just want a framework for developing apps and not have to develop login and security models from scratch.

@berdelyi: Kuske didn't say enterprise edition is a must, it is just an option ... As he said "SugarCRM is the perfect platform for such a usecase.". This is the same for all editions. You could use CE if you want.

Thank you all. I'll complete the wireframes and post as a job when I'm complete.
