After 5 years our/my company is considering professionalizing, We run a B2B trading company selling three product categories with respectively 2000, 600 and 200 different products. Our knowledge about the products we sell and our enthousiasm sets us apart from our competition.
However, our success requires us to take on employees, the orderintake makes is harder to monitor each project, and creating invoices is becoming a day-task.
After searching the internet, I came through joomla! (which we now are implementing in our website), through opensource communities at sourgeforce.net at sugarcrm. It looks really professional to me, and I'm considering if it will suit our business. The standard packages are to static for us, I don't like the way they try to sell it to me and since programming is a hobby of me (not professional) I thought about creating what we needed in asp.net or highly automating MSaccess. But this would take me too long away from the most important tasks in a trading company, selling, customer caring, marketing, showroom organizing. Next to this, I believe in the power of open source. I'm searching for the right solution for our problem that is not static since our company is moving on and on. Our general workflow is :
- someone walks into the showroom and chooses some products
- he ask for an offer for these products
- generally, due to heavy competition, a second offering is made
- after negotiations an offer is granted for like 500.000 items
- we send the product in phases (like 20.000 items per shipping) to where it will be used
- after each shipping we sent an invoice based on the invoices we receive from our wholesalers / producers
- N.B!: we work project based, every project has it's own product price (due to quantity, productionspace at factories etc) even for the same customer in project A and project B.
I realize this is a really really short describtion, but it is what we do in essence. At the demo I noticed sugarcrm's capability of keeping track of our customers, accounts and projecttasks. This seems promissing to me.
So I aks you as an experienced user, do you think on first sight; Will sugarcrm be able to automate these tasks? I thank you for reading my question and looking forward to receive your answer.
