SugarCRM wiki redirecting to KB

Anyone know what happened to the SugarCRM wiki? Every time I try to access it I get redirected to kb.sugarcrm.com (i.e. http://www.sugarcrm.com/wiki/index.p...ux_or_Mac_OS_X which is a page I've referenced to in the forums). Is that just me or are others having problems with it to?

I wonder because it is a good reference when developing and its frustrating me that I can't access it. Furthermore, if its not just me, any reference that I've given others is moot, and that makes me feel sad.

Well, looks like the wiki is dead. In response to a ticket I submitted on the subject:
"We have actually taken down our Wiki page and replaced our Knowledge Base as our source of information available on the internet. Much of the up-to-date and pertinent information on the Wiki was moved over to the Knowledge Base. A majority of this decision was made to streamline our information and house all of it in one location instead of spreading it out over the two locations. We are constantly adding information to the Knowledge Base and it is updated frequently."

I'm hoping that KB grows like wildfire - it currently doesn't even have a post for Logic Hooks, which was one of my favorite pages to reference.

We are doing a big push internally to make finding information about SugarCRM, SugarCRM administration, and SugarCRM development easier. One of the most common complaints we get is that there are too many places users have to visit to find the information they need. The first big change is that we have taken down the wiki and replaced it with our knowledge base. We are pushing out a lot of new articles to the KB as part of this process. We may have missed something that you used to find valuable. Let us know and we will put out a new KB article on the topic. We would also love to get your feedback on better ways of getting the information that you need in your hands.

On the developer side we have been pushing out a ton of new articles to the developer blog at http://developers.sugarcrm.com/wordpress/ check them out. A lot of them are focusing on web services. We have also pushed out a new ruby gem to make connecting to SugarCRM from ruby much easier. You can read about it in the developer blog.

As a SugarCRM developer this is incredibly frustrating and a poorly thought out move.

I have stored many links to the wiki for reference and those links no longer work. Not only that the information doesn't appear to be available.

I'm all for simplifying the documentation off SugarCRM, but removing the wiki has removed the only source of lots of information!

On one hand you're saying you want to reduce the number of spots information is available... and then say you've created a new one!

Please, at least make the wiki available as an "old archive", don't remove it altogether.

Things I know are in the wiki, but not in the knowledge base that I wanted today and can't find anywhere:

- Explanation of how searchdefs / searchfields work
- http://www.sugarcrm.com/wiki/index.p..._Customization
- SugarBean module reference (this is a huge and important reference point)

In general the wiki contained the only resource to investigate the inner workings of SugarCRM and without it this information is completely lost. A lot of it was inaccurate, but was better than nothing... now we have nothing!

Some things from the wiki that I miss in the knowledge base:
- MVC
- Logic Hooks
(kb search didn't find anything)

btw.:
I don't like the knowledge base user interface concerning the search. There are two search fields side by side on http://kb.sugarcrm.com/ but no explanation which is for what. I'd prefer more descriptive texts like "search knowledgebase" instead of a simple "search".

This is the DUMBEST move EVER by SugarCRM.

People like SugarDev.net have spent countless hours documenting the internals of SugarCRM on that wiki.
This is a HUGE step backwards in terms of customising (with code) SuagrCRM.

PLEASE put the wiki back somewhere.

The problem with where the wiki was at is that the information was most often out of date and poorly maintained, which caused lots of confusion and spread lots of incorrect information. We've used the dev blog as resource in the meantime, but fully intend to have that content roll into a proper documentation system.

That said, if there are any topics you wish us to cover in the dev blog, please don't hesitate to let us know. Thanks again for your understanding and support.

Hi John,

I like your blog very much. The texts are very helpful. But still I miss some things from the old wiki, e.g. the very good documentation of logic hooks. It would be great if you could get through the old wiki, filtering out the perls and putting them into the KB or the developers documentations (and let us know via blog whenever there is something new).

Another question on the blog: is there an effective way to search the blog entries for some topics?
