Default A Sys Admin career working with SugarCRM?

    Hi!

I am a PeopleSoft CRM person, working as a PeopleSoft Admin. Think of it like being the tech dude for the system. I am responsible for maintaining the system, Application Upgrades, Tools Upgrades, applying PeopleSoft patches, updating software, migrating code, working with security, integrations, system stability, system tuning, the list goes on. While I do not write application code, I do write scripts and utilities for the servers (ksh, perl). Work with Linux, Solaris, Windows, etc.

I am happy with my job and don't plan to leave in the next year. However, I am thinking of the future and would like to move towards an open source application to work with. Is there an equivalent role in the SugarCRM world? A Sugar Administrator, if you will? I do not want to write application code and find system work rewarding. Would it be worth it for me to start learning SugarCRM?

    Thanks for your help!

    JJJ

From what I've seen there is definitely a need for a role like that. However, it is still unavoidable to not write a small amount of application code to do what you need to do. If you can write scripts though you shouldn't have a problem with php which is just another scripting language.

JJJ, there is an Admin Fundamentals course you can take that gives you a taste of what types of tasks you'd be doing. The class is taught online and in person, by (mostly) Sugar partners but also occasionally Sugar University. You can check out the classroom schedule here:
    http://www.sugarcrm.com/crm/sugar-un...-training.html

The course is either 2 days in-person or 4 days online, and the price varies a bit depending on what part of the world you're in. Topics covered include Users-Teams-Roles administration, Studio, Module Builder, Workflows, and Upgrades.
