...Maximum number of custom fields that I can add to any particular tab? I would like to replace 50 or so 2006 fields in my account records, with 50 or so 2007 fields and not delete the old ones (this way i can pull them back to the search field if I need to reference them) and when I made the change, most data does not save.

Maybe not, but if you have that many custom fields (over 100), it is not uncommon to have issues when trying to save data. Unfortunately I don't know how to solve your issue.

You might consider not using custom fields but editing Sugar files directly (vardefs.php, DetailView.html, EditView.html, etc.). Yes it takes more work up front, but then you can be sure that your data is saved properly.
