Update fails, restarting at login screen

Hi,

i´m trying to install 4.2 Patch over 4.0.1e. Everytime when i click to commit after a few seconds the login screens apears without to do the update. I changed all files to 777, but the problem still exists.

some ideas?

Is there any log file created by the web server?
