Default Vote for Advanced Open Sales for July's Project of the Month

Advanced OpenSales (AOS) delivers Quotations, Products, Contracts, Invoicing and PDF Templates modules to the Community Edition of SugarCRM and is compatible with SugarCRM 5.x and 6.x. Today’s AOS is the result of two years of continuous development and innovation. AOS is an Open Source project with all code released under Open Source Licenses. AOS has an active and engaged community of users and developers and in the best spirit of Open Source, enhancements to AOS are often defined and contributed by community members.

We have also recently released a beta of PDF mail merge which will be available in the forthcoming new release of AOS.

Continuous effort, long-term commitment, high-value modules.

Please give us your vote in the SugarForge Project of the month at:

    Thank you

But don't forget to vote for ECalendar too. Project is new so a little of people knows about it.

Wow. Your project is really so COOL if it gets about 300 votes for ONLY 10 minutes.

I absolutely would not have got involved in this process if I had thought for a second that it would create any ill feeling between people who have a common interest in developing excellent extensions for SugarCRM and I will not get drawn into a public slanging match!!

Here's a copy of the email I have sent to John Mertic who is running this process:

    Hi John

We put some effort into winning the POTM July. We have a registered user base of 5,000 for Advanced OpenSales (AOS) and emailed them on Sunday and Tuesday to ask them to support the project by voting for us.

By Tuesday evening we had built up a healthy lead.

I now know that one of my developers had seen the Ecalendar vote escalate rapidly in a short space of time and by Wednesday morning they had come from nowhere and overtaken our vote. He took matters into his own hands. Using an anonymised browser session, he multi-voted. However, he tells me that as fast as he could vote, that the Ecalendar vote was rising at least as fast concurrently.

I have explained to my developer that two wrongs do not make a right and that I expect him to come to me next time.

So, we feel the whole process has been degraded and our marketing effort and the goodwill of our community has been in expended in vain. For this reason, I would ask you to withdraw AOS from the July POTM vote.

I will re-nominate for a future POTM once the process is more robust and transparent.

I really do appreciate the effort that you seem willing to commit to the community and apologise for our part in corrupting this competition.

    regards

    greg

    Hi

That's why I told that removing duplications of IP's in db will be the honest solution. We started small email campaign after my returning to the office from a hospital (I did not knew about POTM poll before) at Tuesday's night. We have our small staff, about 10 companies-parnters with theirs that would like to help us. That's why amount of our voters increased faster then before that night. And in the morning you started a grand cheating. I assume you did it becouse thought that we did unfair manipulations.

Believe me that we did not cheat (I assume that some of our clients could mess smth). We were sure that simple SQL that removes similar IPs will arrange us for the places.

Methinks there's a little too much protestation and not a little of getting your retaliation in first ... we stand by our observation about the scale of your voting and the pattern of it ... it's now between you and your conscience.

Now I have to come to Alex' defense because I was mighty pissed off by what was going on here.

First I got three spam mails which asked me to vote for AOS. Since I do not know the situation in the UK I cannot question the legality of such an action but I would have expected to find at least an unsubscribe link.

After I went to the voting page yesterday afternoon and I saw that something was going on there. So I called Alex and he told me that he recognized the same. He also told me about the incognito browser trick. Then I asked him why the f.. he isn't doing the same (shame on me, I admit I tried it once) and he said: "No, we are thinking of it but we haven't done it yet, we'd rather speak to the Sugar guys first." What he apparently did.

I also believe that it would have been fairer to just remove the duplicate IP addresses as well as known proxies but this is John's to decide. This would have given a clear picture who was cheating...
