    Hi Tomek,

Yes, SugarCRM CE will still be continued after SugarCRM 7 is released, however, we will not be releasing SugarCRM 7.0 to CE because it is a SaaS release only.

We currently do not have a release date for our CE users to upgrade to a 7.x version.

    Hi,

When you say it's a SaaS release only, will it be released to on-site self-hosted Pro/Corp/Ent customers - or will those be held back on 6 too?

    Thanks

    Hi,

By SaaS release only, I meant that SugarCRM 7 will only be available for our new On-Demand customers. Some of our existing On-Demand and On-Site customers will have the option to upgrade when 7.1 is released. And some that are on 6.5.x will not have the option until 7.2.

    Hope this clarifies.

As far as Sugar is concerned..Sugar CE is a dead duck.
Assume that there will be no more CE releases.

Not completely no, are you saying the CE version will never get a update to 7 ?
Or will CE also be updated with either version 7.1 or 7.2 ?

@normanu: The text you quoted talks about payed editions, not CE.

    Concerning CE csilva408 said (2013-09-13, 08:40 PM):

In what can only be regarded as a move of breathtaking cynicism that is unlikely to be forgiven or forgotten, SugarCRM has stuck 2 fingers up at the community that has supported them, nurtured them, fixed their bugs, helped their users, written extensions ... yup ... everyone who has done any of that, all 30,000 of - you can **** off.

But as Larry Ellison at Oracle is increasingly discovering, once the genie is out of the bottle it is damn near impossible to get it back in. The momentum in the tech community is away from MySQL where Oracle is not viewed as a trustworthy open source steward to MariaDB who are.

The same is going to happen to SugarCRM. It will fork. The fork will win.

    Salesagility,
Was there an official announcement about SugarCRM dropping Community? I am not finding one.

    Hello All,

First of all, I do want to say I work at SugarCRM, but I'm not in Sales or Marketing or Evangelism. I'm a Technical Support Engineer. My job is to help customers be successful with the product, and while my official capacity is to work with our paying customers, I'm working to share my knowledge with the Community and learn from you guys.

I'd like to put this question to bed, or at least as close to bed as possible based on the information we at SugarCRM have available, and can release at this time, but first, I'd like to address this comment from SalesAgility:

'In what can only be regarded as a move of breathtaking cynicism that is unlikely to be forgiven or forgotten, SugarCRM has stuck 2 fingers up at the community that has supported them, nurtured them, fixed their bugs, helped their users, written extensions ... yup ... everyone who has done any of that, all 30,000 of - you can **** off.'

Nothing could be further from the truth. At no time has SugarCRM said that we would be abandoning Community Edition and no longer offering it as of Sugar 7.

My colleague, Carmen Silva's response may have come off as confusing, so let me apologize for that. Again, I have to stay within what I'm allowed to say, but I can confirm what she mentioned is correct, Sugar 7.0.0, the first release of the Sugar 7 version, is going to be available as an On-Demand only, for new customers only, release. CE users are probably reading that last sentence and wondering how that's supposed to put them at ease, but hang with me.

For those of you familiar with the changes we've demoed in Sugar 7, that wasn't just UI changes, we've rebuilt a lot of the application from the ground up. What this means from a server administration standpoint is, we need time to test on different stack configurations. Just the different iterations of the LAMP stack alone that we support need to be tested before we can release to the public, not to mention Windows stacks and our IBM and Oracle database options. With the time-table we're working on, we know that Sugar 7.0.0 will work in the On-Demand environment, so that's where we're starting.

7.0.x will be On-Demand only, but Sugar 7 is coming to everyone else, it will simply be a later date. Unfortunately, I can't say when. I can't say which version. Some of that is because I'm not allowed, but mostly, it's because Product Management is working out those details. We can't openly commit to something, then have a major problem and have it blow up in our face, which I'm sure you can all understand. In the mean time, Sugar will continue to offer updates to Sugar 6.5.x for the Community Edition.

We've got some big things planned, but they will take some time. Hopefully this helps answer some of your questions.

    Kind regards,
