    Default Why no iCal Support?

In a previous post I asked "Why is SugarCRM so buggy when most OSS isn't?", and got an excellent answer, so I'm hoping for a similarly helpful response with this post.

One of my users has requested the ability to sync their Mac calendar with SugarCRM, and even though I hate Apple with a passion, I still wanted to fulfill his request. However, despite finding massive amounts of posts about iCal/Sugar, I wasn't able to find any way whatsoever to sync (there is an iCal plug-in, but apparently it's a one-way export only deal).

Now here's the part where I get confused: as I said, there are a massive number of posts, going back years, asking for this. One guy even offered to pay a 3rd party to make it and then open source it. Despite all this, there remains no way to sync with iCal. So what I'm wondering is ... is iCal syncing really really hard? Do the Sugar people hate Apple as much as I do? Or is there some other reason why this very highly-demanded feature doesn't yet exist?

If anyone can help me understand this I would really appreciate it (hopefully it will help me figure out what my next move is with iCal).

We are big fans of Apple here at SugarCRM. Many of the Sugar developers use Macs themselves. It's more a matter of waiting to do it right.

The current calendaring system in Sugar was something we built back in the 1.5 version of Sugar and then extended upon from there. We plan to completely rebuild that subsystem in next year's major release and are looking at adding iCal support then.

Basically we aren't planning on adding any new features to the current Calendar code, but are rather waiting until we update that entire code base.

Awesome, thank you Clint for that informative reply!

I guess I'll tell my user that he just has to wait awhile to get true iCal syncing (and set him up with the one-way plug-in for the time being).

Do you have a time-frame for that release? When is next year's release?
