Adding a new field to Opportunity

I am with a software company and trying to add a field to the Opportunity for # of Licenses. I have been able to add it to the Opportunity screen but it does not appear when adding or editing an Opportunity (so is useless). I found the Edit screen for Opportunity but when I try to drag it over to the screen it doesn't "stick" and I haven't found any other way to do it. Ideas??

Did you create a new row by dragging the new row item over to the view? Or you have to drag and drop it onto a filler item that is already there.

You might also create a new panel, rename that panel and add it there. Then you save and deploy to make it appear in the final result.
